My daughter, Emma, is currently admitted to the hospital, due to an issue with insurance. We will be here for the month of January. Let me tell you, I’m almost a week in and I’m already tired of hospital food!!! Not to mention, you could spend a fortune trying to eat three meals a day here!! I went grocery shopping at Target since it’s conveniently the closest place to the hospital. Bonus: Target is everywhere, so know matter where y’all live... you can pick up these supplies. **Pro Tip: save one of your kids plates, a set of eating utensils and the heating dome for your use while you’re there. You can use it to microwave your meals. I just wash it off and keep it in the room.
Shopping List:
When you open up the chicken you will have three chicken breast...the container does not reseal itself. Pro Tip: ask your nurse for two biohazard bags to store the extra chicken!! Bonus: no one will try to eat it in the “community fridge”!! Haha.
Once the chicken is separated, add to plate and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes (microwaves May vary). Then microwave veggies and rice for 1 1/2 minutes together. Add some butter to veggies and rice then add to plate. I put my plate in the microwave for 30 seconds and placed the heat dome on it to bring back to Emma’s room. I added a packet of soy sauce from the cafeteria for some extra flavor on the rice!! Now... enjoy!!
You will have enough supplies left for another full meal plus one additional chicken breast that can be added to a salad or add to some bread for a chicken sandwich. Living in a hospital doesn’t mean you have to live on cafeteria food or McDonald’s... you can have a great, easy and health meal with hardly any effort!!
